Do you think the collective conservative hissy fit is genuine?
I find it hard to believe that anyone can make a bigger deal about ACORN and the people Obama has associated with than what happened under the Bush administration. For starters:
1.Torture at Abu Ghraib
2. Guantanamo
3. Bush’s biggest political backer through his entire political career having been Enron CEO Ken Lay. Bush was considering making him Treasury Secretary in 2000.
4.Scooter Libby(Cheney’s Chief of Staff) and his role in leaking the identity of a CIA operative. Was subsequently pardoned form jail by Bush.
5.Trying to appoint his good friend Harriet Miers to the Supreme Court
6.Firing DOJ attorneys for political reasons.
7. Brown and the "heck of a job" he did as FEMA head during Katrina
8.Providing talking points to Fox news
9.According to Tom Ridge: Bush administration pressuring him( Homeland Security head) to raise terror alert the day before the 2004 election to help Bush win.
10.NSA spying on UN diplomats in the UN building, and trying to get UK to do the same with members of the Security Council in the lead up to the Iraq war.
11. Huge contracts going to Halliburton during Iraq War. Coincidentally Cheney was the former CEO of Halliburton

So I ask again, are you genuinely moved by the actions of Obama, or are you trying to make people laugh at you?
In contrast to submerging the head face-forward in water, waterboarding precipitates an almost immediate gag reflex.[13] The technique does not inevitably cause lasting physical damage. It can cause extreme pain, dry drowning, damage to lungs, brain damage from oxygen deprivation, other physical injuries including broken bones due to struggling against restraints, lasting psychological damage or, if uninterrupted, death.[3] Adverse physical consequences can start manifesting months after the event; psychological effects can last for years.
Since holding people without trial is a great way to show our moral superiority!
Waterboarding isn’t torture. HAHAHHAHA. Now I know you are joking.
Jeffrey Immelt’s board:The board, which will meet regularly to advise the president on programs to "jump-start" the economy and how those programs are working, features a mix of executives from various industries, academics, a representative of the AFL-CIO, and others.

This is dumb and an example of why dems are not taken seriously. You have nothing. You make a list over the last eight years and then say 0bama hasn’t had enough time to do anything.

You’re right if that is your argument (I have to assume so because your list is so stereotypical of the party line you tow.)

Let’s see…..

1. 0bama couldn’t decide if he was going to release photos or not.
2. Hmmm 0bama is having issues there right now isn’t he?
3. 0bama has hired a proven tax cheat for the job.
4. Well let’s just have our current administration call the CIA liars instead that’s so much better.
5. Sotomayor much? Yeah she didn’t even get to pick out her own clothes.
6. Upheld Bush’s decision on "State Secrets" ring a bell?
7. FEMA – Well ACORN certainly did get money from that. Considering the time frame I’m sure that 0bama or one of his associates had something to do with supporting that group and the squandering of funds. I mean he was their attorney for a while.
9. Is trying to stop freedom of speech with FOX news, I mean infringing on constitutional rights is soooo much better.
10. Can’t make a decision on war and would rather have America’s children killed daily due to his own political reasons and try and get his numbers up by not sending more troops. As of June 1st, 2009 0bama had more than 250,000 private contractors in Iraq and Afghanistan which you can find on the Department of Defense website at http://www.acq.osd.mil/log/PS/hot_topics .html that is a 23% increase in Iraq and a 29% increase in Afghanastan vs. GW Bush.
11. Oh and he still uses Halliburton too through their satellite companies all you have to do is google that to find out what you need there.

Let’s not forget that he has strengthened the Patriot Act far beyond what Bush did and let’s not forget about the impending "Net Nutrality".

Nice try.

Also just to try and pry open that mind of yours a little bit. Not all people that disagree with 0bama are republicans or conservatives. They can just see past the end of their noses.

OK you can go on and on now and make meaningless arguments. Proceed.

You left out the secret police spying on Americans, and the detentions without trial. Well actually you left out more then Yahoo has room for in a question, so I’ll give you a break.

We are genuinely UNMOVED – by Obama’s Silly plans.

Obama IS ACORN…

And… Although BUSH was far from PERFECT- His errors and con jobs are FAR below OBAMA’S.

1. Don’t know enough about Abu Ghariab
2. Waterboarding isn’t torture. Guantanamo is still opened. And Obama has sent these terrorists to Caribbean resorts. Yay.
3. GE – The owner of NBC – CEO Jeff Immelt is on Obama’s Economic Advisory Panel. At least Bush stopped short at consideration.
4. Scooter Libby should not have been pardoned. But that’s not much different than Obama saying the Cambridge police was stupid.
5. Obama appointed a racist to the Court.
6. Why did Obama fire Chief Inspector Gerald Walpin? Political reasons? Me thinks so.
7. FEMA was a disaster, but did you expect Bush to flame the man for the biggest natural disaster in US history?
8. Obama gives Chris Matthews thrills up his leg
9. We agree on this.
10. No clue.
11. Again, Jeff Immelt, GE, NBC, Economic advisor.

No, I’m laughing at you.

Both presidents are one in the same.

Should Americans receive the same, if not similar, subjects that other English dominated countries teach?
The issue with most Americans when it comes to education as a whole, in my opinion, is the lack of understanding they receive when it comes to various important factors that go hand-in-hand with each other.Such as Religion and Geography

These factors, such as Geography and religion, come to mind. Most ignorant issues lie with the lack of understanding in these areas which results in the way America is seen today. For example issues such as racism is covered in History class or English class over in the states, students are to read books like ,The Color of water,The Secret life of bees,Diary of Ann Frank etc which is understandable but it’s not enough if students are not taught the context under which it applied to.

Now in Britain they have a class called R.E, Religious Education. In which the overall objective is to educate the students on religion from different point of views. This helps people understand different values society/cultures have so they don’t have to mock it.

Also in Britain they have a class called Geography which teaches obviously geography. Now you can say that in America they have Earth Science but that’s introduced in High School. By the time you’re in High School you should know where countries like Australia and Japan are right? Well not so much by most Americans. If they want to know this they have to learn it outside of school which as most of us know hardly ever happens.

Now if they were to teach it, i think Americans would not be as anti-Muslim or anti-semimtic, etc as they can be.American Media drives their perspective because the schools don’t provide. Now England or other countries may not be as perfect as they may seem but at least we are given the opportunity.

So what do you guys think would happen to America if they introduce R.E and Geography classes?
Well i don’t mean to offend anyone here but the reason i ask is that i myself have actually been to school in America. Through Middle School 8th Grade on to sophmore year in High School in New York.

I came back to England and am attending Sixth Form College in order to get into University.

So i am not completely oblivious to how eduction works in America and of cause there are some exceptions as not all states have the same curriculum as one of you has pointed out.

In response to another comment, although you perceive that i am stuck up and what not, furthering sterotyping between english and american education etc. That’s not the issue i’m trying to discuss here and i don’t agree with that but it is understandable you point that out.

We start taking geography in grade school well into college. I knew i wanted to travel the world when i was 5. We arent anti-muslim or anti-semimtic, america is a melting pot, if we were anti anything, america would be a horrible place and there would be choas. Mostly in america, you learn the religion your brought up in, america doesn’t force religion on you, its your choice if you would like to learn more about it.I learned about catholism, buddism, chritianity, muslim, etc.I think you look to much about our government, then getting to know Americans as individuals. Yes there are stupid Americans, but there are also stupid English, Chinese, Mexican, the list goes on. You cant say your education system is better than anyone elses, its all about opinion. I personally think Americans can be stupid, but some are smart. You just have to get to know them. I think you should stop sounding so stuck up and calling Americans "stupid". Your just giving us more of a stereotype that all English people are stuck up and think their better than everyone else. Besides most of the things we are taught come from England.

*georgina* | Feb 04, 2010

we had geography classes from 4th grade well into college, it was part of our core at Northwestern. I always assumed everyone had to take Geography! That is new to me if they don’t. I absolutely love the idea of religious education though. i would have taken that in college if it had been offered.
Jenna C | Feb 04, 2010

heh . . . you’re not going to have such a well-rounded equally accessible education system in a nation in which people were once beaten and killed for learning how to read to begin with! :-)

Nice idea, though! Someday . . .

According to the Pakistani, Indian, Shites and Arabs ya’ll need to learn something about yanks.
Strange Brew | Feb 04, 2010

Can you say stereotype? We all had to take geography up to college and almost every one could point out japan and australia on the map. We dont study religion in high school because of separation of church and state.

So, I'm thinking of writing a story…..long but please read?
Okay. To start I am young. Very young. I want to write a book about my mum. She has had an extremely difficult, but to me, interesting life. WILL IT MAKE A GOOD STORY?

- Her father was a drunk and her mother came wealth and married into lower class.
- Her mother suffered much grief from her husband.
- traveling from England to Australia on an Italian ship at the age of 17, and leaving her eldest brother in England.
- Getting married to someone 8 years younger when she was 27, in Australia.
- Her father dying from cancer
- learning she couldn’t have children.
- My mum and her husband traveled a lot as he worked with Nestles.
- Deciding to Adopt a boy from Korea. Then going back to Korea to adopt a girl.
- Next moving to Papua New Guinea, but loosing her little girl to drowning.
- Then my mum, her husband and son moved to Fiji after living in Papua New Guinea just under two years.
- They adopted an Indian boy, but had to give him up after 4 months because his birth mother wanted him back.
- Next adopted a 1 week old Indian girl (me) and living in Fiji for 2 years. ( my birth father left my birth mother when he found out she was pregnant. he was a horrible man who burnt her, locked food cupboards and had sex with other women in front of her. My birth mother died just under a year after i was adopted. She had no family, just me but then had to give me up.
- My mum has 2 photos of her and a letter from my birth mothers nurse.
- Getting divorced after finding out her husband was cheating.
- Moving back to Australia and having to live in a hotel for a month with two young kids and trying to find a job.
- my earliest memories is of my mother being severely depressed.
- Now 11 years later me ( 13 nearly 14) , my brother 22.
- We have both suffered depression and have both been on anti- depressants.
- I have given my mother a lot of grief the past few years which i regret.

Do you think this would make a good story?
Any title suggestions?
I have decided to write it through my mum.

As if the reader is her.

wow thats amazing to have gone through that and be ok. i think this would make an amazing story and good luck with this.
i am also on anti depresents and was diagnosed with clinical depression. i am also 13 almost 14.
good luck with everything :)

Olive | Dec 09, 2009

oh gosh…. yeah that would make a very interesting (and sad!) story. I say go for it!
Maddy | Dec 09, 2009

This would make a good story. You could go do it as non-fictional or in other words keep it 100% true. Or you could write a fictional story and just use excerpts as ideas for your story. This would give you more freedom and by using parts of your mothers life it would add realism that might be lost by just making the whole thing up.
galad2003 | Dec 09, 2009

you have outlined the story. flesh out some details. divide it into chapters. research the background to add interest. but yes, there is a lot there. good luck on giving it a happy ending
mattapan26 | Dec 09, 2009

i agree it would be interesting! take a shot at it
TaraSquad | Dec 09, 2009

no sorry. Its depressing, not inspiring at all…Everyone has family secrets like these, your not the only one…
As a reader we fail to see the connection to us from your family. So it wouldn’t appeal to us as much as it has to you. And what do you mean by a story? like a biography? Frankly your mother’s life isn’t THAT amazing as far as biographies go….

I do have to say the abuse your real mother received seems very tragic. Good fuel for a story, "locked in a cupboard" that’s something you can use for perhaps a fictional story based on true facts
Dance with me | Dec 09, 2009

I think it would make a good story. You should make it from your point of view. The title should be My Mom, A Strong Woman.
haytinkhb | Dec 09, 2009

Yes. I’m so sorry to hear about your mum, but that would be an interesting story to read. My own mum has gone through tons of hard things, but nothing compared to THAT. And I’m 14, and I’m a writer, and we aren’t the only ones out there this age who want to write books.

I would say writing this book would be a good goal. I’m sure your mom would be incredibly honored and glad.

Do you think there's a reason for everything?
well kind of a bad thing happened in my childhood and i’m wondering what the reason of this happened.
Heres the story:

I had a sleep over with my closest friends. we played video games backyard football went into the pool. boy stuff and i had an awesome day. The next morning my friends were still there and my mom was all dressed up and she was going to this bon jovi concert and she’ll be gone all day. so that was cool and i realized that i have another party to go to and i’m going with my friends that just slept over (kinda small lil’ neighborhood) so it was an exciting couple of days. So we go to the party wit me my two bros and my dad. Do pool party crap..blah blah..blah and i pull out a juicebox and relize my dads talking to my neighbor the whole party thought nothing of it. Finally the party ends everyones tired especially me. go right to my house slip of my shoes and just go to bed. realizing my mom was still at the concert. So everyone passes out in like 20 minutes. But i woke up at like 3:00am with my mom screaming crying and i could resite every word "WHAT THE F*** IS THIS WHAT’S YOUR PROBLEM YOUR MY BEST FRIEND AND YOU GO AND DO THIS WHAT THE **** WHAT IS THIS I WAS GONE ALL F***ING DAY AND YOU DO THIS. LEAVE MY HOUSE. i was like 8 or 9 at the time. and i didn’t know what was going on. until she went into further detail. She called up my aunt and she said my dad was cheating on her other stuff. And i sat in my bed crying. when everything good went upside down. Everyone had a great time until this. i couldn’t do anything i didn’t want to i was shocked with depression. we had to move from my neighborhood cause my neighbor lived across the street. And my dad had to move out for a month then came back they fight say things will get better fight again and then he went to a acholism thing for like a month and a half. and they have fought so far the cops came to my house. to the point when i would break down and cry. when this 12 year old. football player tough comical guy broke down into tears. they pushed me so far i’ve even cut my wrist (never thought of sucide) and have been depressed for a whole year. i’ve gotten better but when people push me and they complain about their small problems i just can’t control my self with anger and all these feelings that blow out of me. i probably do need therapy i bottle up my feelings but i want to know why this had to happen my life was practically perfect until one day.

Trust me. It will get better. Ok, to make my point, this is pretty much what’s up with me. First, my mom died when I was a kid, then 4 other family members died in a 3 year period, then I got bitten by a dog and received 22 stitches (accident), then I thought everything was ok for about a year until my 2 childhood dogs died on me (I know, they are just pets, but Im a huge animal lover so it hurt!). Then, right when I enter college, I think that everything is going well, until two days before I start the semester i break my foot. Yes, I have to wear a cast, no problem, but still troublesome. After that, my laptop breaks down and I have to spend around $150 getting it fixed. About three weeks after that (mind you this is all within a four month period once I started college) my only car’s engine blew. After that… (geez glad 2009 is over) I tried to turn a corner, lost control and the car my sister loaned me to finish school and fell 200 ft. Now, I had to stop school because I don’t have any transport and move back home. But, I am extremely optimistic and know that everything does happen for a reason. Even though I have gone through all of this, I know that because one thing happens, another event occurs and changes your life in a different way. Remember: What does not kill you makes you stronger! I hope this helps! And yeah, if you feel like it I would suggest going and talking to a therapist, it does help. Also, if you ever want to talk, just email or IM. :)

I do believe everything happens for a reason. It may not be clear why this has affected you the way it has but then again you may never know why. You will need to learn to accept that in your own way. I would recommend that you see a psychiatrist that’s goal is to help you over come this portion of your life. I will pray for you and am sorry you have gone through all this and never got any help coping with the divorce. Good luck!

First of all it was not your fault, or your mothers what your father, and next door neighbor did, they are adults and they took it to far and cross the line. Being that said they are paying the consequence for there actions, and so is the family, but its up to you to come thought this without being scared for life. This is a new year and you must move on, and leave the past behind you, do not carry the sins of your father like a cross it is not yours to bare. For example my father was an alcoholic and i hated my childhood, so i made sure that i would never drink or smoke and when i would have my own children i would not make there life a living hell like mind. I have 3 wonderful sons and they love me to death, and always tell me what a great mom i am, you must think of your future and how you want your life to be, so make the right chooses when you pick a bride so you won’t go through the same thing as your parents and swear to yourself that you will not do the same mistakes your parents did, and you will be a better person for it.

all because of lust for sex, your dad was probably drunk. but do not let this affect your life anymore.

If we can learn from our parents mistakes we become a better person. We learn what happens when people drink booze and have affairs. It hurts so many people and it is not necessary.

It teaches us lessons about selfishness. Sometimes other people problems seem to be less important but they don’t know what problem you have experienced. Someone was mean to them or hurt them in some way and one of the lessons we can learn is to be more tolerant and understanding. It’s what we want from other people right?

We want other people to be understanding of our problem. But we bottle our problems up. This is another very important lesson. Eventually our feelings need to come out. It’s better to let them out a bit at a time. We also learn that we don’t want to hurt other people because we know what it feels like.

We need to learn to talk about our problems, before they become so big we can’t deal with them.

Crappy things happen to everyone at some point in their lives. You do need some counseling; it will help you get through this and help you stop cutting. Even though it may not seem like it now, things will turn around and get better. They always do!

Hydrogen Peroxide is a liquid. It’s what you use to clean cuts. You can find it anywhere, try a pharamacy and look near the bandages. Never heard of it whitening teeth though. Not something you want to get in your mouth. Let’s just say there’s a reason why the bottles are 93% water. ….
